Our Story.....

Our story starts in the vast world wide web, where Anntara and I first clicked. The First thing I said to her was “What’s a nice place like you doing in a girl like this?” from the movie Deadpool, which she clearly seemed to have liked (and probably would not be engaged today if she didn’t!)

We met at a cafe shortly after connecting online, but not before we confirmed that either of us was not a serial killer. The First thing I noticed about him was his voice, it sounded like warm honey melting butter. It was a pretty good sign that there was not a single awkward pause during our first date. We hit it off just as well offline even without the ability to filter and rewrite/rephrase our thoughts. I liked him so much that I ended up inviting him to come along with me to the mall; which was supposed to be the escape plan in case the date went terribly.

Our relationship started with a lot of movie dates. Back then, we were both students and had full time jobs. Most weeks the 7 O’clock show on Tuesdays with a bag of popcorn was where you could find us. We spoke a lot online too and still do to this day. We did not start with the usual topics of conversation such as school, ambitions, favorite XYZ. Once we had a detailed discussion on the rules of selling one's soul based on the TV show Supernatural. We both agree that this was one of those ‘It’ moments for us.

During our relationship Anntara and I have enjoyed many of the good things of life together. We shared interests in hiking, working out, gaming, cooking and wine. I knew for some time that she was ‘the one’ when she started to go out on hikes with me. When we started dating, Anntara would only walk from her car in the parking lot to the door of her destination, and still complain. But eager to spend time together, she braved the rough terrains of the Toronto Parks System to hike with me, something I enjoy. Especially during Covid lockdowns and the mandatory social distancing rules, we would walk outside together in parks a lot. Recently, we completed a 10km hike together.

If I braved the wilderness of southern Ontario, Jesse braved the dance studio in Markham where we learned Salsa, Bachata and Merengue. And are getting lessons for our first dance at the wedding (Stay tuned!). Jesse had surprised me for my 27th birthday with a private lesson, which I still think is the most romantic thing Jesse has done. These lessons soon became a standing date night for us where we would go dancing on Friday night, have dinner at our favourite restaurant, and then finish the night off with a bottle of our favorite wine and a movie.

Though both of us were not much interested in getting married early on, I did want to spend the rest of our life together. Being apart during covid kind of solidified our intention to get married. After discussing it for a few months, I got my grandmother's ring from my dad and had it resized. I was ready to ask her to be mine. I decided to propose at the cafe where we first met. I made a reservation and recruited Ibbtida, Isshmam and Bushi to capture the beginning of our forever. While Anntara was busy drinking coffee and making plans for the day, I got down on one knee and said the 7 magic words “Anntara Mubashshira Khan, will you marry me?”

I was so excited about the ring and the proposal that I forgot to answer and put the ring on before saying “yes”. Now I get to spend the rest of my life with my Best Friend.

We are eager to celebrate the day of our wedding on September 21, 2024, in Ailsa Craig, Ontario.
